The Two Week Break

Friday, December 18, 2015

I'm taking a break. for two weeks. [technically, it's three weeks because I didn't post this week.]

During this break, I'm going to be working on content, prettifying the blog a little more, new categories, and other fun stuff. I'm also going to try to work on my etsy and improve that. Hopefully, I'll begin taking better pictures with my phone. My goal for next year is to buy a camera.

Anywho. I wish you all the best these holidays. Merry Christmas, and I'll see you on New Years.

Enjoy good Christmas music.

8 Moons to Buy or DIY

Wednesday, November 18, 2015

MOON STICKY NOTES. [BUY] I need these. I'm constantly using sticky notes and making lists. I'm supposed to have them. I need them. They need me. I mean, just look at them.

MOON CLOCK. [DIY] I like the bold contrast between the moon and the hands. and the fact that the clock is a moon.

MOON TURNTABLE SLIPMAT. [BUY] I want a record player. I want vinyls and I want to dance in a kitchen to the sound of them. But unfortunately, college has some restraints. One day this beautiful slipmat will be mine, though. One day.

MOON GLOBE. [DIY] If I get married and I have the babies, I currently think it'd be super adorable to have a space themed nursery [we'll see how long this last]. This space shuttle would also be super to cute to have when they get older and I'm transitioning the nursery into big kid world.

Free Download: Friendsgiving Invitations

Tuesday, November 17, 2015

Laura and I decided super last minute to have tiny friendsgiving potluck in our tiny dorm. The weekend shall be filled with cleaning and decoration and cooking and smiles.  I made handwritten invitations so you could share the smiles. I wrote "potluck" and the details for  "what, when, where, wear" in bright colors for aesthetic (and so you can customize your own.)

DIY Stenciled Sharpie Mug

Friday, November 13, 2015

I feel like everyone already knows how to make a sharpie mug, but I felt like there's an easier way to make multiple sharpie mugs look basically exactly the same. So I decided to make a stencil.

contact paper

Tunes: Sufjan Stevens

Thursday, November 12, 2015

Tuesday night I went to see Sufjan at the Alabama Theatre, and let me tell you: IT WAS SO GOOD. he sounded amazing, he danced adorably, and he picked the right people to play with him. Dawn Landes sang with him and it was phenomenal. AND THE LIGHT SHOW WAS SO GOOD.  (the pictures get blurry from here. sorry, friends.)

DIY: Color Blocked Marble Laptop Skin

Friday, November 6, 2015

[inspiration] I went to Dirt Cheap the other day and found marble contact paper for $.55. I was super excited because I've been wanting a laptop skin for Henrietta but I couldn't justify buying contact paper just for this (college broke life struggle) and I definitely couldn't just buy one already made. I mean, honestly, it would've been wrong for me to not buy this contact paper(Here's some  pretty similar contact paper.)

materials
marble contact paper
acrylic paint
glitter
mod podge

DIY: Moon Mouse Pad

Friday, October 30, 2015

materials
cork trivet (similar)
masking tape
gold spray paint mod podge
moon image

step one. (if you want the gold border) line the outside of the trivet (I got mine from Walmart in the plant section when I was buying Elijah, Elisha, and Ezra.) with tape and spray paint the edges.

step two.trace the the circumference of your trivet on the image of your moon. my trivet was a little smaller than my picture, but I still think it looks good. cut a little more than necessary to leave room for error.

step three. put mod podge on top of your trivet and put the moon picture on top. cut the overlap off the sides.

step four.when the first coat has dried, put another coat on top to make it all shiny.

The Campus Garden

Wednesday, October 28, 2015

Several weeks ago my friend told me that we had a campus garden. I was super pumped. Last week I finally got the nerve to go. It was so very fun and exciting and inspirational. Only problem? I don't know what half of those vegetables are [apparently peppers are the easiest thing to grow?] and I'm super scared that I'll pick them wrong.... and at the wrong time.
Help me learn to garden? [If you know any recipes for anything you see PLEASE SHARE THEM}

so I feel like the big green things are bell peppers. But what is that yellow looking thing?

Okay so there's the papa johns pepper, but the red ones I don't know about.

Um, this is a jalapeno, right?

Elijah, Elisha, and Ezra

Wednesday, October 21, 2015

During fall break, I went to the store and bought some plants. My dorm room was crack-a-lackin some greenery so I still hold that this was a good decision. The cactus on the far left is Elijah, the middle is Elisha, and the succulent on the right is Ezra. I think when they're planted, Elijah and Elisha will live in the same pot together (I hope that's safe...).  I am super excited about my new plant pals and I hope I don't ruin their lives.

[Elisha is my favorite. Don't tell the others.}

DIY: Constellation Pill Box

Friday, October 16, 2015

I needed something in my purse so my Tylenol bottle would stop proclaiming that I had pills in my purse, so I decided I need to make a pillbox. I originally tried to use a moon picture, but because the container isn't a circle, it looked strange. I decided to go with constellations instead and it ended up reminding me of almostmakesperfect's constellation coasters. (sorry not sorry butalmostmakesperfect again.)

Four Blogs That Deserve Street Credit

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

So before I make any more posts, I've decided that I need to hand out a little street cred (the picture is on a street - that's why it's funny. ha ha ha) to those who helped me beautify my blog.

codecademy.com
Codecademy helped me learn CSS and HTML in a non-miserable format. I wouldn't be able to understand the tutorials on other websites without it.

almostmakesperfect.com
oh my goodness. her blog is so pretty. I can feel my blog's self esteem dropping every time I look at almostmakesperfect. her blog's minimalism is a definite inspiration to the design of my blog. She also has good content and diys that I want to make when I get a house or an apartment or a bigger room or my own room or room. Her blog is my favorite and I wish I was as cool as her.

xomisse.com
this blog is amazing. She posts tutorials that make your blog beautiful. And it's not one of those blogs that have "pretty blog tutorials" and then the actual blog it's on is hideous.  She's currently redoing her site so I can't get on it AND IT'S TERRIBLE. She says she'll be back mid-October, but it is pure torture. I check everyday to see when she's back. She's not back.

venustrappedinmars.com
I really like this blog. Her post about instagram hastags is really good.  I actually get likes now! Moving on... Every Saturday she makes an effort to post a new blog tutorial to "spruce up your blog all on your own." I'm very excited to see what's she's going to post and how I can use her tutorials to make my blog pretty.

DIY: Kate Spade Inspired Gold Sneakers

Friday, October 9, 2015

I went shopping at a goodwill and found some gold keds. I was very skeptical about buying these shoes because they weren't at all attractive, but I bought them anyways with the hope that new laces and pinterest would help me see the light. They did. Every were I looked "gold keds" presented me with Kate Spade. I really liked how there were being worn (especially here), and I knew that where were the kind I wanted so I got to work.

[inspiration]

   materials
black paint
tape
white paint (if you make mistakes like me)
black ribbon

[see how terrifying they look? the after looks so much better than before, I think]
